Pruning Some pruning is done for basic safety reasons, such as removing large, dead limbs that are over public areas. Other times we might want to prune evergreen borders to promote a density in the plant materials, working to maintain privacy. Young trees should be pruned with an eye towards good structural form. The right pruning when trees are young will help to ensure a strong and healthy, mature tree. Often we do the work by climbing with ropes and safety equipment:
